Melissa & Laurence | Aberdeen Wedding at St Machar Cathedral & Maryculter House
As a wedding photographer here in Scotland, photographing weddings like Melissa and Laurence’s truly brings joy to my work. Their day was brimming with laughter, genuine moments, and a few unexpected delights. It was a privilege to capture such a memorable celebration.
Let me share the beautiful details of their day with you.
Getting Ready at Maryculter House
The day started at Maryculter House, filled with the buzz of excitement. Before anything else, Melissa gave her bridesmaids wee gifts, creating smiles all around. Both Melissa and Laurence got ready there, surrounded by their friends and family, and I was there to catch all the morning fun.
Melissa looked absolutely stunning in her white dress with delicate lace sleeves and a long flowing train, topped with a traditional veil. Adding a special wee touch, Melissa wore her grandma’s shoes. They suited her outfit beautifully and meant a great deal to her. Laurence matched the day’s green theme splendidly in his traditional Scottish attire, complete with a green and navy tartan kilt that really stood out.
The green theme was clear from the start, with the bridesmaids wearing beautiful green dresses, adding to the happy atmosphere.
Ceremony at St Machar Cathedral
Melissa’s ride to St Machar Cathedral became a bit of an adventure when the wedding car got a flat tyre. But Melissa just smiled through it and arrived looking calm and radiant. The ceremony inside the majestic St Machar Cathedral was something special. I caught their loving glances and smiles, which showed just how happy they were, making those moments a joy to photograph.
Golden Hour Newlywed Photos at River Dee
After the ceremony, we headed to River Dee for some photos. The afternoon sun was a bit strong, but it didn’t stop me from capturing some beautiful shots.
As the evening came and the golden hour light filled the sky, everything looked magical. The warm, soft light wrapped around Melissa and Laurence. They looked so happy together, surrounded by the sparkling river and the shiny stones under their feet. It was a perfect, dreamy moment right before the sun went down.
Unexpected Guests and Fun Moments
The afternoon had its share of surprises too. A group of friendly alpacas arrived and everyone loved cuddling and petting them. These wee furry friends were a hit and made for some really fun photos. The couple’s dog also joined in for a few snaps, adding to the fun.
One of the bridesmaids had arranged for a steel band to play outside in the afternoon as a treat for Laurence. All the guests enjoyed the lively music and it added a brilliant touch to the day.
Speeches and Dancing
The speeches that evening were full of warmth and good laughs, showing just how much everyone loved Melissa and Laurence. The dance floor was never empty. Everyone joined in, dancing and having a grand time. Capturing these lively moments, from the joyful dancing to the bursts of laughter and the sweet exchanges between the couple, was absolutely brilliant.
Melissa and Laurence’s wedding was a beautiful mix of Scottish tradition and modern style. As their photographer, I felt so privileged to document their special day.
